BMW ConnectedDrive Driver Assistance systems in the BMW X6 M.

Elevated seating position, sporty ergonomics: In the BMW X6 M, you are sure to have everything under control. However, you don’t have to do everything yourself; you can had over some tasks to the Driver Assistance systems. Parking, for example. Or regulating the headlights. BMW ConnectedDrive innovations can help you in many different situations. For maximum comfort. And even greater safety.

SURROUND VIEW.

Surround View includes the camera systems Top View, Rear View and Panorama Side View. Cameras in the exterior mirrors and two wide-angle cameras, one in the front and one in the rear, enable a 360°-panorama surround view as well as a panorama view of the area in front and behind the vehicle. Top View captures a 360°-panorama view of the area surrounding the vehicle and uses this data to computer-generate a bird's-eye view to facilitate manoeuvring. The wide-angle Side View camera between the double kidney grilles on the front and the wide-angle Rear View camera enable a panorama view of the area in front and behind the vehicle. The camera systems are activated when the car is put into reverse or the PDC button or Side View button is pressed. The images captured by the cameras are shown on the Control Display. The driver can choose between the Rear View camera, Top View or Panorama Side View. The Side View function is automatically deactivated when the car moves at speeds of 15 km/h or more.

BMW HEAD-UP DISPLAY WITH M-SPECIFIC DISPLAY.

The full-colour BMW Head-Up Display with M-specific functions projects all information relevant to the journey directly into the driver's field of vision, thereby allowing them to fully concentrate on driving. The display includes data such as speed, navigation tips, Speed Limit Info, telephone and entertainment lists, along with information and warnings from the various driver assistance systems. At the press of a button, the driver can switch to the sportier M-specific display. Along with a digital speedometer, it also shows the selected gear and a multi-coloured revolution counter with shift lights for determining the best time to shift. The icons projected onto the windscreen are displayed in a particularly high resolution and in full colour. The image's projection appears as if it were 2.3 m in front of the vehicle. This, in combination with optimal positioning, allows the information to be read quickly, conveniently and with minimal distraction. The brightness of the projection automatically adjusts to match exterior light conditions. Additionally, there are also daytime and night-time settings, and the height of the projection can also be adjusted. Furthermore, the driver can also select which information to display in addition to the current speed and warnings from the driver assistance systems.

BMW NIGHT VISION.

BMW Night Vision detects people and larger animals at a long distance. A thermal image camera in the radiator grille with a range of up to 300 metres relays images of people and animals directly onto the Control Display.
An infrared camera mounted on the kidney grille transmits images from the front of the vehicle onto the Control Display. The image allows the driver to identify people and animals at a distance of up to about 300 metres.
The driver receives warnings in critical situations via the regular display and the BMW Head-Up Display. A flashing red icon (animal or person) is displayed if there is an acute risk of collision. An acoustic alarm is also sounded and the brakes are primed for optimum readiness. The monitor is automatically activated when the vehicle is started. The system even emits a warning when the imaging display has not been activated. BMW Night Vision is an innovation from BMW ConnectedDrive.

DRIVING ASSISTANT.

The Driving Assistant feature combines the camera-based Lane Departure Warning and Approach and Pedestrian Warning systems with City Brake Activation.
It detects lane markings and alerts the driver to an unintentional lane change at speeds above approx. 70 km/h by means of vibrations in the steering wheel and a visual warning in the instrument cluster. The warning is not activated if the lane change is deliberate, in other words the turn indicator has been activated. The camera also detects pedestrians. Here again the driver is warned if there is the risk of a collision, and if necessary the brakes are applied. The system also warns you of a potential collision with a vehicle ahead from speeds of approx. 15 km/h and conditions the brakes for a faster response at the same time.

LANE CHANGE WARNING.

LANE CHANGE WARNING.

Warning symbol on the exterior mirrors.

At speeds of 20 km/h or more, the radar-based Lane Change Warning detects vehicles in the blind spot as well as vehicles in the neighbouring lane. The driver is alerted to the presence of vehicles in the critical zone by a triangular warning symbol on the exterior mirrors. If, in spite of this, a driver indicates the intention to change lanes by activating the indicator, he or she is alerted to the danger of the situation by a vibration in the steering wheel and a flashing triangular warning symbol on the exterior mirrors.

NAVIGATION SYSTEM PROFESSIONAL.

The Navigation System Professional features a sleek design and a superior range of services: It delivers a simple and easy-to-use navigation system that is seamlessly integrated into the BMW, with iDrive operating concept and iDrive Touch Controller included. The system comprises the hands-free kit with USB interface and voice control and the Radio BMW Professional with DVD drive, as well as 20 GB memory for audio files. It also facilitates the use of Advanced Real Time Traffic Information (only in conjunction with BMW ConnectedDrive Services Professional). The built-in 10.25" LCD colour display with split-screen function (main and supplementary screen) is designed for optimal readability and overview.

  • iDrive Touch Controller

It is operated intuitively via the iDrive Touch Controller, whose touch-sensitive surface allows the driver to easily enter destination addresses for the navigation system using their handwriting. Alternatively, the system can also be operated via direct menu control buttons, the eight functional bookmarks or voice control. Thanks to the three-dimensional map display that makes use of satellite images as a map background – with photo-realistic depictions of selected sights – navigation becomes an exciting visual experience.

PARK ASSISTANT.

The fully automatic Park Assistant represents the latest generation of parking comfort in a BMW. In this generation, the system selects the forward or reverse gear, takes control of steering and automatically accelerates or brakes as necessary. Prior to the parking manoeuvre, the driver merely has to turn on the indicator and then keep the PDC button pressed during the entire parking procedure, along with monitoring the surrounding area with the help of the automatically activated Rear View camera.
Once the manoeuvre has been completed, the system selects the P driving position. When travelling at speeds of up to 35 km/h and with a maximum distance of 1.5 m from the row of parked cars, the ultrasound sensors in the BMW use the Control Display to show potential gaps where it would be possible to parallel park in a roadside space.
