ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW.

These FAQ's are designed to prepare you for the big day when you receive your vehicle at the BMW Welt, and other questions you may have about the tour. You will find the answers to your questions below.

  • How many tours are there?

There are currently 3 tours, however more details will be released soon.

  • Can anyone participate?

The individual purchasing the vehicle must be 18 or older and can participate as long as they have a permanent residence in Canada, a valid passport, a valid Canadian driver’s license and a social security number.

You must order your vehicle through your local BMW Retailer and indicate your interest in a BMW Euro Tour, space is limited.

  • Will my BMW be legally registered in Europe or Canada?

Your automobile will be registered and delivered with German tourist license plates. The plates are valid for the period indicated on the registration documents and license plates. BMW provides 14 days of premium insurance and tourist registration with no additional cost to you.

However, should you decide to extend this, additional coverage is available for purchase in 30- -day increments only. For example, for 45 days coverage, you would order two months of insurance, which is the actual coverage period, not one month plus 14 days. Coverage must extend to your drop-off date and can be arranged through your local BMW Retailer and must be done in advance of your pick up date. In the event of an insurance change, BMW must be notified a minimum of three weeks prior to pick up in Munich. Changes to insurance cannot be done upon arrival in Munich.

Customs regulations restrict the use of tourist license plates for private purposes. The customer is responsible for complying with any local regulations and taxes that may apply.

Registration cannot be renewed and cannot be extended once initiated. Tourist plates are valid only in Europe. When the car is shipped to Canada, you must arrange to register your vehicle in your home province and pay provincial sales tax.

  • Is my license valid in Europe?

A valid Canadian driver's license is sufficient to drive a car in Europe. Drivers must be at least 18 years old. If you plan to travel in Austria and/or Spain, you must have a valid International Driver's License, which can be purchased through the Canadian Automobile Association (CAA) closest to you.

  • How long will it take to ship my new BMW from Europe to Canada?

The approximate shipping time of your vehicle to Canada depends on the drop-off location and where you reside in Canada. The estimated shipping time of your vehicle is six to eight weeks for those on the East Coast, and eight to 10 weeks for West Cast residents. Vehicles dropped off outside of Germany may take up to an additional two weeks. Upon arrival in the Canada, all vehicles require Canadian Border Services Agency customs clearance.

  • What countries does the tour go through in Europe?

Not yet finalized, but you can expect to drive through countries such as Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Italy.

  • How long does the tour last?

Typically 1 week (approx. 6 days, 7 nights).

  • Can I extend my trip?

Yes you may extend your trip. We would work with you on the date and location for shipping your vehicle back to Canada.

  • What additional costs should I be prepared beyond the tour participation fee and flights?

As part of the participation fee, transportation once arrival into Munich, planned group meals and hotel accommodations in each city will be covered. Personal purchases, hotel incidentals and activities on free time will be at the participant’s expense (eg. spa).

  • Is there a dress code on the trip?

Typically we suggest casual comfortable clothes that are weather appropriate. We suggest good driving shoes for those who are driving. We will have one smart casual dinner evening.

  • Is there transportation once I arrive at the Munich airport and for my flight home?

Yes, we will collect all participant’s flight information, that way we can arrange for airport shuttles for both your arrival and departure flights.

  • How do we arrange vehicle drop-off at the end of the tour?

The tour will likely end in or near a city that will have a drop-off location for your vehicle to be shipped back to Canada. If you are extending your trip, it is very important that you keep us informed so we can organize your vehicle drop-off to an appropriate location.

  • How can I attend a BMW Welt or BMW Factory Tour?

Please let us know your interest in joining a tour during your visit and we can assist in making a booking for you.

  • During the tour, will there be free time?

We will account for periods of leisure time during the tour. However, we have planned an exciting itinerary and will have to stay on schedule in order to visit all the stops planned.

  • For payment of tour participant fee, what methods of payment does BMW Canada accept?

We accept credit card payment in the form of Visa or Mastercard.
