When the i5 xDrive40 Sedan is fully charged, you can cover distances of 447 km. This enables you to manage your daily routine without any problems. However, you are also well equipped for more distant destinations with this range.

That depends on which charging station you choose. If you connect the BMW i5 eDrive40 to a Wallbox with 11 kW alternating current, it will take roughly 9:45 hours. If you use an AC charging station with double the output, that is 22 kW, this will reduce the charging time approximately by a half. The fastest option for charging the BMW i5 eDrive40 is to use a direct current (DC) charging station with a maximum of 205 kW. In this case, you can charge the battery from 10 to 80% in only 0:30 hours^[2].

As soon as you brake, any kinetic energy generated in the process is converted into electrical energy. This charges the battery and thus increases the range of the BMW i5. It works in a similar way to a bicycle dynamo. This energy-saving and environmentally friendly process is event triggered when you take your foot from the accelerator.
