A SUCCESS STORY: BMW i.

PROJECT i.

In spring 2008, the best minds of BMW meet at a top-secret locations in Munich to consider an ambitious target: the reinvention of urban mobility. The team from Munich set up a think-tank, call it “project i” and assign a single mission: Forget what went before. Rethink everything.

BMW VISION EFFICIENT DYNAMICS.

For the first time, an overall concept for saving energy is developed; previously, the approach only involved integrating energy-saving techniques into existing models. The body and the drive system were specially developed, with the focus on energy-saving. The concept becomes a technology base for many further developments by BMW.

LAUNCH BMW i.

Born Electric: BMW i is the new brand from BMW and impresses with its mobility concept that permits a fully electric mobile daily routine – before, during and after the journey. This is because BMW i thinks beyond the vehicle – and leaves nothing to be desired with its innovative mobility services.

BMW CONCEPT i8 AND BMW CONCEPT i3.

The next evolutionary stage in the BMW Vision EfficientDynamics – the BMW i8 Concept. It combines the impressive performance of a sports car with a high degree of efficiency. The BMW i3 Concept is presented at the same time. The first completely connected electric vehicle, which is specially tailored to the requirements of electric mobility.

BMW i8 CONCEPT SPYDER.

Less ballast, more freedom – the BMW i8 Concept Spyder: this breathtaking lightweight roadster with hybrid drive forgoes the roof and relies uncompromisingly on carbon, aluminum and lithium. The structure of its frame accommodates the axles drive system and batteries so that the weight is cleanly balanced.

BMW i3 CONCEPT COUPÉ.

Reinventing mobility means thinking beyond the realms of environmentally aware and agile driving. The result is the BMW i3 which, with its visionary design, offers a view of tomorrow’s automobile. Its innovative eDrive propulsion system not only allows emission-free and incomparable driving pleasure but at the same time provides an exciting almost silent motoring experience.

MARKET LAUNCH OF BMW i3.

Urban mobility reinvented: the BMW i3 is the result of a vision that extends far beyond environmentally aware and agile driving. With its visionary design and the innovative BMW eDrive power system, the BMW i3 is the car of tomorrow. It is not only locally emission-free but also fully connected with the city.

MARKET LAUNCH OF BMW i8.

The sports car of the future – with the consumption and emission values of a compact car. The strength of this plug-in hybrid lies in the perfect synchronisation of electric motor and combustion engine, which expresses itself in maximum efficiency and dynamics on the road. No longer a vision, but fully charged intelligence. The first sports car that can even accelerate the zeitgeist.

BMW i VISION FUTURE INTERACTION.

The future is on display in 2016 in Las Vegas: at the Consumer Electronics Show, BMW i Vision Future Interaction is providing a view of tomorrow’s interconnected cockpit. Just one of the highlights is AirTouch, a completely new system that enables a wide range of functions to be controlled by gesture.

BMW i3 (94 Ah).

The BMW i success story continues – or better: runs and runs. With its range of up to 200 km per battery charging operation, the new BMW i3 (94 Ah) is also a reliable travelling companion for lengthy tours. And with its 7.3 seconds for 0 to 100 km/h, it also boasts true sprinter qualities.

The values of fuel consumptions, CO2 emissions and energy consumptions shown were determined according to the European Regulation (EC) 715/2007 in the version applicable at the time of type approval. The figures refer to a vehicle with basic configuration in Germany and the range shown considers optional equipment and the different size of wheels and tires available on the selected model.

The values of the vehicles labeled with (3), are already based on the new WLTP regulation and are translated back into NEDC-equivalent values in order to ensure the comparison between the vehicles. [With respect to these vehicles, for vehicle related taxes or other duties based (at least inter alia) on CO2-emissions the CO2 values may differ to the values stated here.]

The CO2 efficiency specifications are determined according to Directive 1999/94/EC and the European Regulation in its current version applicable. The values shown are based on the fuel consumption, CO2 values and energy consumptions according to the NEDC cycle for the classification.

For further information about the official fuel consumption and the specific CO2 emission of new passenger cars can be taken out of the „handbook of fuel consumption, the CO2 emission and power consumption of new passenger cars“, which is available at all selling points and at https://www.dat.de/angebote/verlagsprodukte/leitfaden-kraftstoffverbrauch.html.
