Plug & Charge activation.

All Model Year 2025 and newer BMW EVs are eligible for Plug & Charge. To check if your BMW EV is ready use the eligibility chart below.

If you haven’t already, set up your BMW ID from your BMW EV. Download or open the My BMW App. Add your new electric BMW (or access your current vehicle) within the app.

Please note: A Shell Recharge account is required to use Plug & Charge at select Shell Recharge charging stations, and Tesla Supercharger stations.

From the My BMW App, create a Shell Recharge account via the following steps:

1. Go to Shell Recharge
   • On the vehicle status page, scroll to the “Charging” section, then click on “More.” Once in the Charging menu, scroll down to “Services” and click on “Shell Recharge.”

    

2. Create an account
   • Select “Create an Account” and confirm Shell Recharge’s access to your My BMW App data. Then enter your credit card details and confirm. Upon creating an account, a Plug & Charge contract will be sent to your vehicle (may take up to 24 hours).

From the iDrive main menu, select (1) Apps, then (2) Charging, (3) Plug & Charge, (4) Available Contract, and (5) Download and Use. You will see a contract from Shell Recharge. Be sure to select and download it. You are now ready to use Plug and Charge. Please note that Plug & Charge will be enabled for all BMW IDs on your vehicle – including Guest profiles – by default.

Network compatibility:

Shell Recharge: Shell Recharge aggregates multiple charging networks under one account. Not all networks and stations within the Shell Recharge account currently support Plug & Charge. The following networks are compatible through Shell Recharge, and more are coming in 2025:

• Shell Recharge (select stations) 
• Tesla Superchargers

How to find compatible stations:

Through the My BMW App, you can browse and filter for Plug & Charge compatible stations. Additionally, upon parking in front of a charging station, your BMW will always indicate the availability of Plug & Charge on the Goodbye screen.

Contract selection:

Your BMW can hold multiple Plug & Charge contracts from providers, but only one can be set as your default contract. You can check your default contract in the Plug & Charge menu, or on the iDrive Goodbye screen before exiting your vehicle. Be sure the correct contract is selected before plugging in, otherwise authentication will fail. 

For example if you’re at a compatible Shell Recharge station, be sure to switch to your SRS (Shell Recharge Solutions) contract.
